RENOVATION OF HISTORIC LODGE, BETWS BLEDRWS

BRIEF
To take a disused historic Georgian lodge house and make it into a warm dry home within a strict budget, while conserving and restoring key historic fabric.
When we started work the building was empty and almost a shell. The existing windows carefully taken out, boxed on site in protective plywood, and then taken to the joiners shop for painstaking repair. Plasticine moulds were taken of the existing glazing astragals to enable accurate drawings to be prepared for a new copy window. A bold opening was formed in the wall between the main part and the rear extension to enable some new stairs to be installed, to free up space and for the first time provide a sensible layout with 2 bedrooms upstairs.
